Canción de Piedra

The exhibition began to take shape from the idea of working on functional ceramic pieces at a larger scale than I had previously done. I envisioned works with character: functional objects approached from an artistic perspective, designed to coexist in lived-in spaces.

During the production process, I encountered many limitations—some technical, others personal challenges—which led to a process that spanned several months. I selected two collections that felt the most powerful, the most true to what I wanted to express: Magma and Hilo.

-Santi Lena.

Hilo pushes clay to its most extreme point, taking it to a limit where it becomes something delicate and almost impossible for the material.
Magma brings together pieces made with coils of clay, allowing gesture and movement to define the form as the piece rose.

Santiago Lena (1979, Puerto Madryn) is an Argentine ceramicist and artist whose work merges craft, art, and design to create unique pieces in which the material takes center stage. His practice explores the organic transformations of clay and its relationship with nature. A self-taught artist since 2000, he established his studio in Córdoba in 2006, where he has since focused on stoneware ceramicsBetween 2012 and 2014, he participated in exhibitions such as Brizna (Universidad Blas Pascal), La trama del tiempo(Museo E. Caraffa), and MUVA (Unquillo), and was selected for the 2nd and 3rd Sculpture and Sculptural Objects Salon at Patio Olmos.

In 2015, he created Bandada, an aerial installation of 1,500 pieces, and designed the tableware for El Papagayo restaurant in Córdoba, marking the beginning of collaborations with renowned restaurants such as Tegui, Aramburu, Trescha, Narda Comedor, Sacro, Yugo, and El Baqueano. That same year, he took part in the Stadttofferei residency (Neumünster, Germany) and exhibited his work in Córdoba and Barcelona. From that project emerged the RAZA series, which was acquired in 2019 by the Philadelphia Museum of Art. That same year, he exhibited at Fundación PROA and the CCK.

In 2020, he was part of the project Ad-hoc, or how to live together? (Seminario 12, Mexico City), and in 2021 presented Lo bello y lo triste (modeling the imperfect) at Galería Abre. He also collaborated with Cristián Mohaded on the Territorio Híbrido exhibition, contributing the Cabria candelabras designed by both artists.
